Problem Note 68360: The METALIB procedure returns the error "the URL= LIBNAME option must be included on the LIBNAME statement when connecting to Hive"
The METALIB procedure might fail to register tables in a HADOOP library or fail to update metadata for tables that have already been registered. The following error is returned by the Register Tables wizard and PROC METALIB:
ERROR: When the KNOX_GATEWAY_URL environment variable is set, the URL= LIBNAME option must be included on the LIBNAME statement when connecting to Hive.
This problem occurs when all of the following are true:
- The HADOOP library connects to Cloudera with APACHE KNOX.
- The library definition in the metadata sets the Hive JDBC URL property within the library properties ► Options ► Advanced Options ► Connection.
The problem affects only PROC METALIB. The HADOOP LIBNAME statement assigns correctly and can be used successfully in SAS programs and clients.
Circumvention
As a circumvention, you can register tables using the following steps. These steps work only for the initial table registration and have no effect on updating metadata for a table that has already been registered. This circumvention is valid only for SAS® Management Console 9.4_M7, SAS® Data Integration Studio 4.904 if Hot Fix D8Y008 is applied, and for SAS® Data Integration Studio 4.905.
- On the machine that runs SAS Management Console or SAS Data Integration Studio, locate the sasmc.ini or distudio.ini file. Here are the typical directory locations for these files:
Windows: C:\Program Files\SAS\SASManagementConsole\9.4\sasmc.ini or C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASDataIntegrationStudio\4.7\distudio.ini
UNIX: /opt/SAS/SASHome/SASManagementConsole/9.4/sasmc.ini
- Make a copy of the INI file as a backup. Do not change this backup copy.
- Open the original INI file for editing and add the IGNOREMETALIB option to the end of the MainClass line, as follows:
MainClass=com.sas.console.visuals.MainConsole -ignoremetalib
Note that there might be other options in the same line in your file. Do not make changes to those options.
- Save and close the INI file.
- Open a new session of SAS Management Console or SAS Data Integration Studio to register the tables.
This circumvention causes SAS Management Console and SAS Data Integration Studio to use Dictionary Tables and SQL pass-through to collect table data, rather than PROC METALIB.
